Academics

Academics - General - Academics

Students work to earn a high school diploma at the Educational Opportunity Center. Students must complete all academic courses required by their home school to earn a diploma. The school that referred the student awards their diploma. Students may choose to participate in the graduation ceremony at their home school if they were not referred to the E.O.C. for behavioral problems and were not expelled from their home high school. Students who are not permitted to attend the graduation ceremonies may pick up their diplomas in their home school office the week following the ceremonies.

Eight semesters of attendance in grades 9-12 are generally required to complete the total credits required for graduation. Some students may accelerate their program and meet all the requirements before their normal graduation date.
Students are given a schedule that shows all classes they must complete for graduation. (Individual Service Plan). Students work on one class at a time. It usually takes 4 weeks attending half day sessions to complete one class. The average EOC student usually earns 14 to 16 credits per year.
